Dame Vera Margaret Lynn, 20th March 1917 - 18th June 2020, born and raised in East London came to prominence in WW2. Vera Lynn came to be known as the 'Forces Sweetheart' giving live performances to troops in Egypt, Burma and India. Her songs such as "We'll Meet Again", "The White Cliffs of Dover", and "There'll Always Be an England". became iconic tunes of the war. Vera Lynn recorded her first song in 1937 "The Little Boy That Santa Claus Forgot", and she would go on to have hits after the war and remain a firm favourite right up to her death in 2020, by which time she had been active in music for 96yrs.
