The 2026 Britannia Collection

The image of Britannia has one of the longest and most celebrated histories in British numismatics, with origins dating back to around AD 119 during the Roman occupation of Britain. Although she disappeared from coinage for more than a thousand years after the fall of the Roman Empire, Britannia triumphantly returned to British coinage in 1672 and has appeared on the coins of every British monarch ever since.

Today, Britannia stands as a powerful symbol of the nation – embodying strength, resilience and Britain’s historic connection with the sea.

The reverse design captures Britannia in her timeless role as guardian of the seas, reinforcing the iconic imagery that has represented Britain for centuries.
